My idea of street art initially was that it is revolting by nature. The people who do graffiti would come out in the dark of night and discretely spray away their anger on the walls of people and disappear.
The visit to Shoreditch triangle changed all that. I saw that people expressing their feelings through street art and it being widely accepted among the society. Some pieces of art seemed like they were exclusively commissioned by the property owners.
They express the business of the establishment very beautifully. For example a shop called Locksmiths had an interesting logo, but the main attraction of that shop was the huge safe door painted on the front of its main door. It also had a physical rotating handle on the door, just as on the old safes.
But there are some images which just seem to be the personal expressions of the artists themselves. It seems that every now and then artists would find something which is irrelevant in the daily use or is of no use to anyone and turn it into an art piece in itself which attracts your attention.
Revealing the world around us that so often goes unnoticed, east London’s most notorious artist Stik made me stop and open my eyes. Focusing on buildings and street art, Stik’s drawings and sketches document the ever-changing nature of our fast paced urban landscape. Stik has been creating Stik people around London for over ten years and anyone who, like me, has wandered around Shoreditch recently by Stik’s works, bright street art adorning shop shutters and walls. Stik people initally
Coming to this area it gave me an impression that middle east of London is flocked with different people, designers, painters, tourists, black people, yellow people, white people and many kinds of animals. Therefore the topics of street art here also were mixed with animals, humans, creative characters and monsters. They are living together like neighbours. So I designed this pictures which overlapped with street arts of animals, man, monster and animation figures to show their life.
Originally, we went to Middle East of London to visit the London Design Festival, 2013 at that time. However, we all were attracted by street art in that area. So based on my feeling, I used some timetables and titles of this design festival, combining street art, which presents that this is the time of London design festival, we were shocked not by design festival exhibitions but by amazing street arts.
These are all designs that we saw around Shoreditch. I like the way they have painted the two pigs. They have their own character and that attracted my eye. Even more, we visited the coffee shop that has many kind of chair decorated on the ceiling. It changed my ideas about decoration and that it can be difference.
Sometime, art can have an effect on our emotions. It can explain a story or subconscious mind of the artist. Street Art and Crafts is a large part of design on environment. It attracts visitors with its size and colours. However, an interesting part of this kind of art is they have only one piece.
